Two Momentous Interviews: Burke & Schneider
Two Momentous Interviews
by Christopher A. Ferrara
Since his removal as head of the Apostolic Signatura (the Church’s highest canonical court) and his rather brutal demotion by Pope Francis to a titular post, Cardinal Raymond Burke has made lemonade out of the lemons he was handed. As some rightly predicted, the demotion has freed him to speak more openly about the ongoing “Francis revolution,” and in particular the first session of the disastrous “Synod the Family,” which predictably degenerated into an attack on the family by the radical progressives Francis put in charge of this sham.
Recall the Synod’s utterly disgraceful “midterm report,” which Francis approved and had distributed to the press before the Synod Fathers even saw it. That document outrageously recommended that the Church admit the divorced and “remarried” to Holy Communion on a “case-by-case basis,” that she recognize “positive elements” in civil marriages and cohabitation, and that she “welcome” homosexuals as suchbecause they supposedly “have gifts and qualities to offer to the Christian community” and the Church should be “capable of welcoming these people, guaranteeing to them a fraternal space in our communities… accepting and valuing their sexual orientation…” It is almost impossible to believe that a Roman Pontiff could approve such a document.
In a major interview with The Wanderer, Cardinal Burke told it like it is: the midterm report was an attempted fraud on the Synod Fathers, who had neither written any such “report” on their proceedings nor approved of anything of the kind:
“The very disturbing midterm relatio, which I have openly said was not a relatio or report but a manifesto, served to wake up the Synod Fathers to an agenda that was at work which touches upon the truth about marriage. In the period between the midterm report and the final relatio, the small groups worked very diligently to try to repair the serious damage done by the midterm relatio — and much progress was made.”
Yet, continuing the outrage, Pope Francis has ordered that the discredited midterm report, totally rejected by the Synod majority, be circulated to the world’s bishops as if it were still part of the Synod’s actual deliberations! Still worse, the Synod’s final report, by order of Pope Francis, is to contain three paragraphs the Synod Fathers failed to adopt by the requisite 2/3 majority because those paragraphs intimated the same “opening” to “gays” and public adulterers that had sunk the midterm report. Here too, Cardinal Burke speaks courageously:
“One thing that disturbs me is the three very objectionable paragraphs which did not receive the required two-thirds approval by the Synod Fathers, but yet were included in the final printed text. One must go to the end of the document to see the notation indicating that they were not approved. This has never happened before in a Synod of Bishops. If a proposition did not receive approval by two-thirds of the voting members, it simply did not become part of the final synodal document.”
No wonder the “pro-gay” English Cardinal Vincent Nichols exulted that Francis has“torn up the rule book” in pressing ahead with what is clearly his agenda. While Cardinal Burke hopes that the topics of Communion for the divorced and remarried and “welcoming gays” will be taken off the table for the 2015 Synod — because in fact the Synod Fathers had never put then on the table in the first place — he notes that “it will not happen easily because those insisting on their consideration are in positions of great influence with regard to the Synod of Bishops.” The Cardinal does not say it openly, but those “in positions of great influence” over the Synod include, first and foremost, Pope Francis himself.
In another momentous interview, Bishop Athanasius Schneider (aptly named after one of the few prelates who stood fast against the Arian heresy in the 4th century) said this about the midterm report: “This is the first time in Church history that such a heterodox text was actually published as a document of an official meeting of Catholic bishops under the guidance of a pope, even though the text only had a preliminary character.”
The “Synod on the Family” demonstrates that we are witnessing the times prophesied by Our Lady in Her ecclesiastically approved apparitions at Akita, Japan on October 13, 1973, the very anniversary of the Miracle of the Sun at Fatima: “The work of the devil will infiltrate even into the Church in such a way that one will see cardinals opposing cardinals, bishops against bishops.” This is what the Third Secret — the whole Third Secret — likewise predicted.
May Our Lady of Fatima intercede for us. And may She protect Cardinal Burke and all the other prelates who have the courage to stand up for Catholic truth in the midst of what Sister Lucia so rightly called “diabolical disorientation” in the Church.
