The term “hermeneutic of continuity” was coined with the election of Pope Benedict XVI, the impression given that his pontificate will be a restoration of Tradition. This unfortunately is not the case, since the entire concept as it is practiced falls short of what is commanded in the Oath Against Modernism to believe all the truths of the Faith “in the same meaning and in the same explanation” as the Church always held. In the process of discussing what true continuity consists, we are introduced to one of the most outstanding (and unknown) theologians of the pre-Vatican II period, whose astounding prophetic insights, based on sound dogma, nailed the errors of the ecumenism wrought by Vatican II. And the theologian sounded these warnings even before Vatican II opened it’s doors. It is a magnificent vindication of the traditionalist position, and shows clearly that today’s “hermeneutic of continuity” as simply another form of Modernism under conservative veneer.
